MDM Team is an official spin-off company of the University of Florence, born in 2012 by a group of professors and researchers of the Applied Mechanics to Machines section at the Department of Industrial Engineering. Currently it consists of 6 shareholders and 3 employees with transferable skills of mechatronics, railway engineering, turbo machinery and robotics. MDM Team is active in: advanced engineering and consulting; field measurements and experiments on real plants; CAD design, FEM analysis, prototyping, and construction, of systems and components; development of mathematical models and software for real-time simulation of dynamical systems; consulting for homologation/certification of systems and components.

The mission of the Robotics Division of MDM Team is to develop products and services for unmanned marine applications, contract services for inspection of coastal and freshwater infrastructures / sites.

MDM TEAM has the following clients:

MDM Team SRL currently relies on the facilities of MDM Lab @Pistoia and MDM Lab @Florence ( In particular is available at MDM Lab @Pistoia a small pressure chamber (max 50bar volume of 5 liters) for the execution of hydraulic leakage tests on small components; a pool for the testing in water of components and subsystems already successfully used for the testing of propulsion and vision systems and other sensors set for embarkation on AUV and ROV systems; a 3D printer for rapid prototyping that can be used both for the direct realization of complex components such as propellers, carter, etc ..., but also for the realization of models for molds for the production of small series at external suppliers.

Several vehicles, including the AUVs Typhoon 1, Thyphoon 2, MARTA, FeelHippo, and the ROV NEMO are currently operative and can be used by MDM Team in the framework of a contract with the University of Florence:

We are currently collaborating in a European project (ARCHEOSUb - Autonomous underwater Robotic and sensing systems for Cultural Heritage discovery Conservation and in situ valorization) which aims to develop products and services in support of the discovery of new Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH) sites and of the surveying, conservation, protection, and valorization of new and existing ones (
